Ebola disease
According to the Voice of Nigeria, the Liberian man
who was being tested for the Ebola virus in Lagos
has died.
Patrick Sawyer, who reportedly gave up the ghost
today, had been quarantined in a hospital after
falling ill and was the first case of the disease to be
reported in the country.
40-year-old Sawyer, a WASH consultant at the
Ministry of Finance , is said to have arrived in
Lagos for a conference last Sunday.
The development was reportedly disclosed by a
Liberian government official who chose to remain
anonymous. He also added that the news was
received from the Nigerian Embassy this morning.
Mr. Sawyer is believed to have contracted the
disease from his sister who died three weeks ago.
Ebola has been responsible for the deaths of 660
people across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone
since an outbreak in February.
